Index of
persons and places etc mentioned by H.C. Stacey in his notes
written
on the
printout of the 1851 Saffron Walden Census (kept in Town Library)
Note
The late Clerk of Saffron Walden, H.C. (Cliff) Stacey transcribed the 1851 Saffron Walden census, and alongside entries added his own annotations which form a valuable source of additional information. The index below is an alphabetical guide to his annotations. The page references are to the numbered sheets in the printed out copy, not the official page numbering in the enumerations. Notes suffixed ‘HCS’ are Stacey’s; those marked ‘JRG’ are those of the present indexer. There may be some errors caused by misreading the text, or typing mistakes, for which the compiler takes responsibility.
